Environmental and economic assessments are crucial instruments for decision support in environmental management at both societal and company level. However, great differences can be observed in the way the assessments are carried out, which is often reflected in the results. Some of the reasons are the differences in scientific traditions within natural sciences (environmental aspects) and social sciences (economic aspects).
The central theme of the course is how economic aspects can be integrated in methods applied for environmental assessment. It is the intention to contribute to a bridging of the gap between environmental scientists and economists, and to provide the basis for more consensus in the methodological approaches when applied in research.
The main focus is environmental and economic assessments used for decision support at the societal level (planning and policy). The aim is to contribute to the development of life cycle assessment (LCA) and possibly Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA). Other aspects that will be discussed include the integration of social indicators.
